CSG Yunnan 10kV MVSC Project
In rural areas, electric power is primarily transmitted using 6kV~35kV overhead lines where the voltage severely declines if the distribution network becomes too long. Using a 10kV distribution as an example, the power supply radius of a 10kV line is generally 7 to 8km, however, in some cases, that reaches 20km or more, leading to widespread loads.
Theoretically it is recommended to increase the line voltage to transmit to longer distances, however this is normally not an economic solution as the total loads are merely a single MW, resulting in a bad investment.
MV SC is the best solution for 6kV~35kV long distance transmission lines. It is cost-effective, easy to install and operate, and maintenance free.
Overhead lines are inductive, when a current flows along the line, the voltage simultaneously declines. The voltage along the line is shown below:
If the reactance can reduced using MV series capacitors, the voltage will then rise.
The MV SC is usually installed at the middle of the line, and X_C is usually 50% ~100% of X_L. If a MV SC is installed in the line, the voltage along the line will be improved like this:
Yunnan is a mountainous province with multiple villages great distances away from each other, and thus, suffer from low voltage problems due to the long-distance distribution lines. RXPE had delivered one set of 10kV/ 450kvar SC (50% compensation degree). The SC protection scheme is designed as a spark gap and bypass circuit breaker. Assuming a line fault occurred, the spark gap will be triggered and circuit breakers are bypassed in order to protect the SC.
The SC is designed in a containerized solution with all equipment assembly and testing done in factory to make it easy to ship, install, and commission on site. Simply plug it in, and you are good to go.
The MV SC is equipped with a remote event report system that automatically sends operation events to customer staff at preset cell phone numbers. The only thing they need to do is receive the operation status on their phone, and maintain as needed.
The CSG Yunnan MV SC was commissioned and put into commercial operation in 2015. It completely resolved the low voltage problems and significantly reduced the line loss within the 10kV distribution networks.
